3. Boho heart - The first section on the left is together. Time to make a few blocks for the next section. I have a set ready ...

my last 5 quilts progress report April 25, 2022

3. Boho heart - I am working on section 1- the farthest left section. It is squirrelly to put together. I have to take a break when it gets too confusing. When I come back ...

Rhododendron Trail Finish from TheEclecticAbuela

Bonnie Hunter's annual mystery this year was called Rhododendron Trail.

I stayed (mostly) with Bonnie's colors--only substituting green for aqua. This is a different quilt than my usual ones; it is much lighter in color overall, but it is nice to make something out-of-the-ordinary sometimes.

Rhody Trail (92" x 100")

Rhody Trail (border and binding detail)

Rhody Trail (backing and binding detail)

A fun project--I love Mystery Quilts!

Happy Quilting.

and I started with pink for April with candy blocks

2. I used a random number generator and I opened the box for an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016. It looks like the top is made and just needs borders. There is enough fabric left to make them. I really don't remember where or how I started this one. But, it is ...

  My 5 quilts progress report.

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - yellow/gold  I am working on my hole in the barn blocks. I didn't think I was going to add these this year, but, I did. SO, I am catching up red from January, and aqua from February.

I used adding machine tape to see if I like it. Yes, I did, but it was a pain in the neck, so, I thought I could eyeball 2 1/2 inches and just started sewing long strips. Much better.

5 quilts february 28, 2022 from Making A Lather

My 5 quilts progress report. I tried to not do this EVERY week (boring) but, it has worked to keep me focused. And, I miss it. I find I have been a little haphazard without it. I thought I would do it every month, but, I think I need to go back to every week to help me.

Weekly update: a flimsy, sewing ahead, catching up -- and some good books! from With Strings Attached

I added an outer border to Rhododendron Trail to contain the design.  In retrospect I should have limited it to 25 blocks because it is really, really long.  Too late now!

12-1/2 yards.

I had to buy more of the turquoise print. Fortunately Joann's had 2 yards on the bolt. And that was ALL I bought.  (At Joann's, that is. There's a DSW next door and I found these terrific shoes. I've seen them in a couple of mail-order catalogs but this way I could try them on. They also came in two-tone blue and ...

WIP progress from Making A Lather

I am working on clue 6 of rhododendron trail mystery quilt from quiltville. I cut the yellow pieces from my 2 1/2 inch strip bin to size, but, I just used WOF, or close to that, of neutrals. They will naturally be cut to the right size when I subcut. That saved me one step.

I cut the red pieces too.

Another early morning and I might be ready to make a block.

I started sewing the  dart -a free pattern jelly roll quilt into rows at my Tuesday group. All the strips start the same and then, a ...

What’s New for ’22 from Stash Overflow

You would think that I would have posted regularly in 2020 and 2021 because of the lockdown. I have no idea why I didn’t. I was very productive. For awhile last year I was dropping off or picking up quilts from my long-armer every week or two. I haven’t counted lately but I must have at least a dozen to bind. Yikes! The biggest news is that Ladies of the Sea is among those to be bound. Yay! It came back from the quilter a few months ago. I had some finishing work to do: embroidering some missing ...

Friday check in: QBL and some progress from With Strings Attached

82 looks good, doesn't it?

Look who had a birthday on Tuesday!  We had pancakes as a celebratory breakfast.  I posted the photo on Facebook and reported to him the number of comments and "likes."  He was surprised and appreciative.

The tumbling ribbons wall hanging from last weekend's workshop is QBL -- quilted, bound, and labeled.

I decided on a simple pieced border for the floral applique wall hanging. It's under the needle now.  I will wait until it's finished to post pictures.

I made the setting "triangle" and corner units for Rhododendron Trail.

Here's the ...

Weekly update: not quite ready for Broadway, the mystery, unexpected baskets, and reading from With Strings Attached

"Lovebirds" (c) Phyllis Cullen
In the past our winter guild meetings often had to be cancelled at the last minute due to severe weather (snow or cold).  We meet at night and members live as far as 25 miles away.    Adding to that the uncertainty of pandemic restrictions, the board decided that the January and February meetings will be by Zoom.  This week though the skies were clear it was quite cold.  Our speaker was art quilter Phyllis Cullen coming to us from tropical Hawaii!  She told us how she creates portrait quilts.

Weekly update: a good start to the year from With Strings Attached

I made a few extra units of each step of the mystery just in case.  I didn't count the  HSTs, which became HSTs with wing triangles, which became corner units -- all sets of 4.

It turned out that I made *16* extra sets.  I went ahead and made them into blocks (setting aside three sets of four -- one per Bonnie's instructions and the others just in case!).
